This Chicago Electric Flux Core Welder is a great gateway welder. Learning on a flux core welder can help you get better at proper welding techniques while not having to deal with gas. Flux welders are notorious for creating dirty welds, so some post-weld cleaning might be necessary.

Thickness - 18 gauge-3/16”
Two different wire size options: .03” and .035”
Use & Safety Checklist:
Always wear welding helmet and welding gloves when operating.
Avoid bare skin. Wear thick pants like jeans, close-toed shoes, and a long sleeve shirt.
Do not operate next to flammable materials.
Check current and speed settings based on material thickness located in the user manual (pg 14).
Before powering on, connect alligator clip to work piece as shown in the manual.
Ensure the workpiece is stable. Do dry runs with the torch before turning on.
Load correct wire size per material thickness.
Do not operate in a location where other bystanders can look at the weld without proper eye protection.
Use welding magnets to secure pieces together.
Hold the torch with both hands.
Do not touch tip of torch to working material to prevent welding the tip to work surface.
Keep torch and alligator clip far apart when operating.
Trim wire with welding pliers to correct length before starting.
Position yourself correctly before starting, keeping sparks off your bare skin.
Use small slow circular motions to build the weld.
Grind off or use a wire brush to clean up weld if desired.
Put away tools and clean any debris.
