Stained Glass

Multi Purpose

We have an extensive collection of stained glass tools available for use. Please bring your own glass or use glass from our scrap bin. Do not use large glass sheets dedicated for class use. If you have a stained glass project you want to work on, let the staff know so they can help you set up.

Use & Safety Checklist:

  1. Always wear safety glasses when cutting, grinding, or soldering.

  2. Always wear heat or cut resistant gloves when cutting glass or soldering.

  3. If you are working on a large project, please also bring your own solder or came along with your glass.

  4. Use glass cutter to score glass. Be careful with shards of glass.

  5. Fill grinder with water. Do not overfill. Do not put too much pressure on the grinder.

  6. Use a soldering iron specifically designed for stained glass. Electronic soldering irons will not work.

  7. Do not leave soldering iron on and unattended. Always keep soldering iron in soldering station when not in use.

  8. When done, leave soldering iron out in the soldering station to cool completely before putting away.

  9. Use flux to help the solder stick to the copper tape.

  10. Apply patina by wiping surface down with #0000 steel wool, rinsing in water, applying with a disposable brush, then rinsing again.

  11. Use disposable gloves when working with patina. Wash off skin immediately with soap and water.

  12. Clean up any glass scraps, trash, and tools after use.
