Microwave Kiln
Glass / Ceramics
This microwave kiln is great if you have a small fusing project or a small ceramic project. For larger projects, or batch projects, it’s most likely better to use one of our standard kilns.
Use & Safety Checklist:
Always wear safety glasses and heat resistant gloves when operating.
Use very small pieces of glass. Large pieces over 3/4” will most likely break. Do not stack higher than 1/4”.
Do not use in a microwave that is used for food consumption.
Use kiln paper to keep melted glass off the surface of the kiln. Keep glass 1/2” away from the edges of the kiln paper to prevent spills onto the kiln.
If the microwave tray is wobbly, try removing tray for stability.
Timing will depend on size of piece, but 2 minutes is a good place to start for glass fusing. Ceramics will take longer.
Keep an eye on the temperature of the microwave regularly to ensure it is not overheating, especially when using for an extended period of time.
Use tongs to take kiln out of microwave.
Let kiln and glass sit for 30 minutes to an hour to let cool. Do not lift kiln top before it’s cool to allow the annealing process to work.
Clean up after you are done and return tools back to their locations.
